For those of you who have plenty of trouble getting your PL2302 driver to work every time windows updates, or for those hit and misses that drive you nuts, their is an easy solution. Dismantle your USB housing which holds the 2302 board and replace it with a USB to UART CP2102 board (From ebay) for about $2.00 each.

The most common boards are red or white. If you choose the red type, keep in mind that some of them have TX & RX reversed on the board. This is because it's relative to the device, not the board. If at first your setup does not work, swap them over, no harm done.

The above diagram is for two radios:- 1. AT-5888UV, and the Yaesu VX7R. (Both of which use a single "clone wire", not separate TX & RX lines. The diagrams I found on the net, simply showed and mentioned to connect the RX & TX together, This will NOT work. A Diode on the TX side will solve this. The diode used is a Schottky 1N5819.

For the cost of 2 or 3 dollars, you have made your own cable. The driver can be downloaded from Silicon Chips website. Works every time, no matter what windows updates.
